First of all, congratulations on your interest in becoming a software tester. By developing interest, the journey will be easy for you.

The easiest transition to becoming a tester is if you're a software developer. If you have developed a software before or if you're a programmer, you're already familiar with software terms like; programming languages (java, JavaScript, c#, etc), Integrated Development Environment (IDE), compilers, test environment, production environment, software releases etc.

If you're a newbie in the software ecosystem, it's still easy. You can become a tester in these few easy steps;

1. Understanding the software development lifecycle (SDLC): This will help you to understand the process involved in software development. You will learn how software projects are being conceptualised, the requirements and analysis of the software to be built (such as use cases, system requirements etc).

2. Understanding the software testing lifecycle (STLC): This will help you to understand the the stages at which software testing can be done in the SDLC and the processess involved.

3. Learn about testing terms like; test approaches, types of testing, test plan, test strategy, test suites, test cases, test management and tools.

In these three easy steps, you are already a software tester and you can take on testing projects. As you're growing along the journey you'll develop your testing skills and become sought after by software development companies.

The good news is that; by taking the ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) certification, you'll learn all the aforementioned steps in detail. The certification will also equip you with skills in project management, risk management, change management and business analysis. As you're growing, you'll take the advanced level certifications.

Additionally, by getting certified, it allows you to stand out from your peers and increases your chances of getting jobs more than other testers who are not certified.

P.S: The positive side of starting a career in software testing is that, you do not need to be a professional software developer or evan an IT professional. All you need is to understand the concepts and you are already on your way.

So go ahead and get certified today!
